Scalp Micropigmentation FAQ
What is Scalp Micropigmentation?
Scalp Micropigmentation or SMP is a non-surgical treatment that camouflages hair loss in both men and women. Using a machine, pigment is implanted into the scalp in the form of tiny dots that mimic the appearance of closely-shaven hair follicles.
How many treatments should I expect?
Most clients can expect 2-4 sessions to achieve the desired amount of hair density. Sessions are spaced 10-20 days apart. Scalp Micropigmentation should never be considered a one treatment process.
How long does each session take?
Scalp Micropigmentation treatment typically takes 2-4 hours per session depending on your degree of hair loss. Feel free to bring headphones to your appointment!
How long do the results last?
After completion of your treatment (up to 4 sessions) and with proper aftercare, SMP can be expected to last 5-7 years before needing a refresh.
Do I need to take time off work?
SMP is non-invasive and requires no downtime. After treatment it is common to notice a slight redness on the scalp for up to three days post-session. Clients are also able to wear hats or headwear should they feel the need.
How do I choose a hairline?
If you are unsure of what hairline would work for you, Cheyenne will help recommend what is best!
If I have hair left, can I leave it long?
Depending upon the extent and pattern of the thinning hair, some clients will be able to maintain longer hair. SMP can help thicken areas so less of the scalp is seen. However, if there is a strong pattern of hair loss and not just a loss of hair density, it is recommended to crop it short. Unsure if you should shave before your appointment? Can Scalp Micropigmentation camouflage my transplant scars?
Yes! By replicating tiny hair follicles inside the scarring and blending the color around the scarring area, transplant and surgical scars can see massive improvement in concealment.
I have an extremely dry scalp. Can I get SMP?
Pigment will not take on a dry scalp. It is required to do a sugar scrub on your scalp twice a week and moisturize daily leading up to your appointment.
How long until I can sweat after treatment?
We recommend no excessive sweating or intense exercise 4-5 days after treatment.
How long until I can scrub, shampoo, or shave the treatment area?
We recommend no scrubbing, shampooing, or shaving the treated area for 4-5 days after treatment.
